Analysis Of Leon Kasss The Wisdom Of Repugnance - 811 Words

In Leon Kass’s â€Å"The Wisdom of Repugnance† critical article he addresses the dangers of cloning and why we should not pursue the idea of it. Kass starts out by stating that Joshua Lederberg, one of the major contributors to the idea of cloning, has an amoral view to â€Å"this morally weighty subject†( Kass 17). We have been softened up on the idea of cloning because of how cloning has made its way into our daily lives; although it may be subtle, it can easily slip into our minds and soften us up to see cloning is moral when it is amoral. We have taken cloning so far that it is even integrated into our families by our embryos; people will be able to change the identity of their children, leading us to re-create ourselves. Which is immoral†¦show more content†¦Frankenstein had the idea that creating these creatures was not just an advancement in his knowledge but an advancement to nature around us, because of this everyone should â€Å"owe [our] be ing[s] to [him]†(55). With Frankenstein’s technological point of view, he fails to see the horror he is about to animate. Before the monster had been brought to life Frankenstein had suppressed his repugnance for his monster. Frankenstein ignores his repugnance all the way til â€Å"the dull yellow eye of the creature open[s]† and â€Å"breathless horror and disgust filled [his] heart†(58). Frankenstein finally regains his repugnance after months of ignoring it, but in order to see his repugnance, he had to create a monster of â€Å"breathless horror and disgust†(58). Frankenstein is the fictional example of his warnings of the repugnance of cloning come to life. After Frankenstein’s first creation which had taken a turn from glory, to fear and disgust to which he finally learns his lesson. Frankenstein’s monster tracks Victor down to ask him to â€Å"create a female for [him]† due to all the loneliness and suffering the monster had to endure. At first, Frankenstein shuts down the monster because he did not want another creature roaming the Earth and causing chaos.
